“A glimpse of the past” to honour Vietnamese women and the traditional Ao dai
“The more we learn about our own past, the more we learn to love it, and only if we love our past, can we find ways for the future” –Nguyen Hien Le
The author Hong Nguyen shared: “In my childhood memories, the image of the Ao dai always appeared, in which a small girl put it on, and walked around the mirror smiling happily. The old Ao dai was made of thread fabric and knee-length tunic which was decorated with colourful flowers and wide pants.”
The event invited you to “escape” the everyday busy life of the 21st century, and travel back to the 1970s and 1980s in a musical and cultural space of the last century. This is also the way we say thanks and to honour Vietnamese women in a special way.
When attending the event, girls will be wearing the old Ao dai that their mothers and grandmothers had worn. Through this, they can feel the beauty of the dresses.
The one day event was a chance for these Ao dai to go out of wardrobes and shine with the girls.
In addition, everyone had the opportunity to contemplate a photo set titled “Softly Hue girls” by Le Quang and enjoy the marked musical works performed by two talented young artists Hoang Trung Tin (guitar) and Nguyen To My (violin).
